Apple Drops iOS 17 Beta 5

Back in June, at their yearly Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple gave us a glimpse of iOS 17. They showed off cool new stuff for iPhones, like StandBy, Live Voicemail, and AirDrop updates, among other things. iOS 17 has been available in a pre-release version since early June. And starting from last month, Apple extended the testing of iOS 17 through its public beta program too.

Something new this time around: Apple decided you can jump into the developer beta club without having to pay that $99 fee anymore. The main difference between the developer and public beta now is how quickly they get the new versions.

When they’re fresh out the oven, the developer beta releases head out well ahead of time to make sure nothing big goes haywire for public beta users. As the release date gets closer, both versions usually hit the stage at the same time.

We’ve got our eyes on iOS 17, looking forward to its prime time debut next month. Apple should spill the beans about the official launch date in September, during the iPhone 15 event. Our hunch is that the next big Apple event will go down around September 13. While you wait, stick with us to stay in the loop with the latest updates.
