Celebrating Earth Day with Xbox’s Sustainable Remix Special Edition Controller
Xbox has created a special edition controller made from recovered plastics, including one-third of the material from regrind and reclaimed materials, in celebration of Earth Day. By mixing post-consumer recycled resins with regrind, the controller features unique earth-tone colors with variations, swirls, and markings, giving each unit a distinctive look and feel.
Regrind is the process of mechanically recycling leftover Xbox One controller parts, which are then used to partially create new controllers while still maintaining performance and durability. Additionally, post-consumer recycled resins are incorporated from materials such as plastic water jugs, automotive headlight covers, and CDs. Xbox aims to reduce waste and use less new plastic by incorporating these materials and including the Xbox Rechargeable Battery Pack.
The company hopes to encourage fans to join their sustainability journey by visiting the Xbox Sustainability Hub to learn more about their commitments and to explore a collection of controllers that use less new plastics.
The Remix Special Edition controller draws inspiration from the natural landscapes and physical world around us, with earth-tone colors creating a patchwork effect and bright pops of color creating a vibrant yet serene vibe. The bright green Xbox button, D-pad, and front case color are inspired by lichen found in the Pacific Northwest Forest, while the bumpers, triggers, and side grip areas feature a topographic texture pattern, a nod to the earth’s dynamic landscape.
The controller comes with the Xbox Rechargeable Battery Pack, allowing for up to 30 hours of battery life per charge and a 3.5mm stereo headset jack for plugging in compatible headsets. Users can customize button mapping with the Xbox Accessories app and can take the controller beyond the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles with Bluetooth technology for wireless gaming on PCs and mobile devices.
The Xbox Wireless Controller – Remix Special Edition is available for pre-order worldwide for $84.99 USD MSRP and will be released on April 18. Interested customers should check their local retailers for availability. For more information about the product, visit Xbox.com.
